  1. TurboGopherVR 2.1a4 is a sneak-preview (alpha-test) release
  2. of an Internet Gopher client that combines a point and click
  3. browser interface to the Internet with a 3D virtual-world
  4. interface.  Essentially, this is a superset of the current
  5. release version of TurboGopher (version 2.0) with 3D 
  6. extensions.

  8. Because this is an alpha-test release, the software
  9. is missing some features (which we will to add soon). Use it 
  10. at your own risk, and please send us bug reports and comments. 
  11. We are doing an early release of this software because we have 
  12. found this to be the best way of quickly shaking out bugs and 
  13. feature sets.

  15. With later versions of this software you will be able to define 
  16. 3D icons for objects in GopherSpace, and server administrators 
  17. will be able to specify placement of objects in 3D scenes. 
  18. In addition, there will be more  user navigation features for 
  19. browsing the 3D scenes. To keep up to date on the bugfix 
  20. releases of TurboGopherVR, subscribe to  gopher-news by 
  21. e-mailing  a subscribe request to:

  27. TurboGopherVR 2.1a4 works best on a PowerPC Macintosh running 
  28. System 7 or better. However, this is a fat binary, so if you 
  29. have a 68020-based Macintosh (or better) you can also
  30. run the software. Note that the perfomance is much better on
  31. the PowerPC-based systems, since the PPC cpu has much better
  32. floating point performance the the 68000 family systems.

  34. There is also a fat binary version of TurboGopherVR that makes
  35. direct calls to the 68881 math coprocessor (FPU) available in
  36. some models of 68030 and 68040-based Macs. If you have an
  37. FPU, you should run the 881 version of TurboGopherVR.

  39. TurboGopherVR also requires that both the Thread Manager extension 
  40. and MacTCP be installed on your Mac.  If you are running System 7.5
  41. or better, Thread Manager is built-in (so you need not explicitly
  42. install that).  If you are running a pre 7.5 system, you need to drop
  43. the Thread Manager extension into your Extensions folder and reboot
  44. your Mac.
